Tiger Woods honored with one of golf’s ‘highest honors’ for ninth time

In recent PGA Tour news, Tiger Woods has been awarded one of the most esteemed distinctions in golf for the ninth occasion, underscoring his extraordinary legacy in the sport.

Tiger Woods, the iconic figure in golf, has once again been distinguished with the prestigious Bob Jones Award from the USGA, marking his ninth receipt of this honor. The award is a testament to Woods’ dedication to the sport’s integrity, his adherence to its cherished customs, and his significant impact on golf.

The Bob Jones Award, named after the esteemed Robert Tyre Jones Jr., is given to those who demonstrate the same sportsmanship, character, and integrity for which Jones was known. Woods, through his remarkable career and enduring contributions, personifies these virtues.

With a career highlighted by 15 major wins and nine USGA championships—a record he holds alongside Jones—Woods' respect for golf's heritage is evident. Notable are his three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur titles from 1991 to 1993 and his U.S. Amateur wins from 1994 to 1996. His legendary 15-stroke triumph at the 2000 U.S. Open and his 2008 U.S. Open victory on a broken leg are etched in the annals of golf history.

Woods, humbled by the honor, acknowledges the deep ties he shares with the game's past and its legends, and he is grateful for the recognition of his influence both within and beyond the sport.

Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA, and Julia Pine commend Woods for his enduring influence on golf, which transcends his on-field successes. Woods' journey from prodigy to international symbol of the sport, marked by both highs and lows, has inspired many to pursue golf with passion and dedication.

Off the course, Woods' legacy includes his philanthropic work through the TGR Foundation, co-founded with his father, Earl. The foundation's commitment to education and STEM opportunities for underprivileged youth reflects Woods' dedication to nurturing future leaders.

USGA President Fred Perpall highlights Woods' transformative effect on golf, noting his embodiment of the award's values and his alignment with past honorees, such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Annika Sorenstam.

Woods, still active in the sport, will be honored with the Bob Jones Award in a ceremony on June 12, 2024, in Pinehurst, N.C., during the U.S. Open Championship, celebrating his extraordinary contributions and the lasting importance of sportsmanship in golf. GROW YOUR GRIT  here
